I was recently part of a wedding party here and for the most part I don't have many complaints. The setup is unique in the sense that there are two halls on the top and bottom of the building, and I assume the 2nd-floor venue costs more because it offers a better overall value of Lake St. Clair. The first floor is fine, too, though. As for the general amount of space and how the hall is set up on each floor, some people will like it and some won't. It's a bunch of tables set up pretty close to one another and some people in the back won't be able to see certain parts of the traditional wedding, like the cutting of the wedding cake or the first dance. They do pack you in and I don't see how more than 125-130 guests can fit comfortably here (or logistically). The food really depends based on what the bride and groom choose and decide (or whatever else you're there for). At the wedding I was part of the food included salad (duh), green beans, potatoes (broasted style), chicken parmesan, pasta (with a red cream-type sauce) and roast beef. It's not the best food I ever had -- especially at a wedding -- but the potatoes and pasta were probably my favorites of the entire meal (which was a buffet). The dance floor is a good size and the DJ's kept saying how our wedding party danced more than the usual crowds. I could see that as being true. They were good for the most part, though too much country music during dinner. Gross. The setting next to the lake provides great opportunities for photos by the water or general strolls seaside. The bartender was amazing -- whiskey on the rocks! This is a nice place to party in the spring/summer but I don't necessarily know if it's worth the price tag. I don't know how it is for other events, like special brunches or whatever, but it is satisfactory for weddings. Worth a trip.

They served expired bud light from 2013 at a wedding this past weekend (7/26/14)... Enough said. Embarrassing for the bride and groom paying for it and even more embarrassing for the guests who were served it.

Great food in a beautiful environment. The service is always excellent and they always go the extra mile. I've been eating and attending events here for over 20 years and have never had a bad experience.

As a trained banquet server and bartender I was really unimpressed. I attended a bridal shower here and while I really loved the event I attended, I would not have an event here. Pros: complimentary valet, friendly staff, beautiful rooms, and an amazing view. Cons: Unprofessional and uncoordinated staff. Food is average at best. My biggest issue with the staff was just they didn't seem to have any idea what the were doing. Our table was practically on top of the hors d'oeuvres table so that the back of several chairs were touching it, not allowing guests to walk behind us. Servers had to constantly reach across guests (instead of the standard practice of serving from the left and clearing from the right). The salad was standard, plain iceberg lettuce, two small cucumber slices, two cherry tomatoes, and a sprinkle of shredded carrots served with frozen rolls. The pasta course was farfalle pasta and a blush sauce, on the bland side but still yummy. There was then a long wait between the pasta course and entrée course. As there was a choice of entrée I was stunned to see the servers each taking two plates at a time from the kitchen serving one table at a time the first choice (fish) and then later finishing each table with the second choice (chicken). Most venues put lids on their plates so an entire table (8-10) people can be served by one server at one time. It's bizarre. The only plus side was that the food was hot. The whitefish was cooked well, not underdone, and not dry. I personally did not like the sauce, but still found it edible. The potatoes were delicious and the vegetables were very good, lightly steamed and nicely seasoned as opposed to venues that drown them in butter. I was really surprised, and felt bad for the bride as the manager continued to look at her watch and remind the bride how long she had the room until (4). Not long after 3, while the shower had in fact been ending and some guests were leaving, the staff began taking all that they could from the tables, even the tablecloths and the walls separating the rooms were opened revealing the wedding set-up they were working on for that evening. We felt really rushed to leave which I think is just inexcusable for an event. It's in a very nice area, and the space has a lot of potential. Food was average, I hope this was just a hiccup and that they can do events better in the future. I however would shop around before considering them.

I've been to Mac & Ray's tons of times over the years and had good experiences. This is only our family's second time here for Sunday brunch. It will be our last. The host is old man (i.e. The Grinch) who makes us feel so unwelcome that we won't put up with it any more. He grumbles about customers. Immediately greets you with "do you have a reservation!?" When we say "no" he takes his opportunity to school us on our apparent lack of foresight. I look around at the DOZENS of open tables and he says "on a day like this - most people want a view." We tell him we don't mind and he grumbles over to a booth. Then I hear him yell "tell Chef we have over 50 walk-ins!" There were 54 people in the restaurant (I counted). Apparently our money is a different color than other people's. I asked our waitress about him and she said "He's one of the managers. Brunch is his 'thing'." I tell her that he could use some hospitality training and she says "Nothing is going right for him this morning, or whatever." Look, I get it - but that needs to be transparent to guests. I hear him tell the table next to us how people are "so rude" because they don't honor reservations any more. Then I hear him say how they "got stuck with 3 prime ribs they had to deal with." Another example if a 'manager' that has no idea how to LEAD. After all - this gem is who trains the staff (or not). I've never written a negative review on Yelp. But they should probably stop sending us offers and coupons if they don't want our business. After all - we only pay full price anyhow. $90 down the drain. Well played Mac & Rays. Well played.

We attended my son's wedding reception here and we have no complaints! We traveled from Texas for the wedding, along with the brides family as well. We were able to have wedding cake and the bride and groom sat at the "head table" surrounded by their loved ones. It was February and then view outside was still beautiful. I'd love to come back and see it in the summer! The waitstaff was very helpful and very attentive. We have great memories here!! The food was also excellent and my drinks were yummy too!! This was also Valentines Day and was the sweetest of occasions!! Macray Harbor!

my friend received a gift certificate for this place as incentive to book her wedding reception here. walking in, the place was nice, definitely reminded me of grosse pointe yatch club types as far as the other diners. we were immediately seated, the waitress took our drink orders and addressed us by out names, a nice touch i thought... at first. when our drinks came i asked for water, which did not come until the food came about 15-20 minutes. after this point the waitress was pretty much non existent. i ordered a small napa salad : Napa Mixed baby greens, dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese & glazed walnuts with raspberry vinaigrette....Small...$5....Large...$8 and Penne Arrabbiata Penne pasta tossed in a "angry style" sauce of tomato, red chili, garlic & olive oil. Served with garlic bread.....$11 first off the only reason that 2 stars is not a 1 star is because the napa salad was delicious, as well as my boyfriend's medium rare fillet Mignon ($26) the penne sauce was not even a step above any jar sauce, as far as red chili, where? there was no spice whatsoever. i do love spicy dishes but my boyfriend who has a low tolerance for spice tasted nothing. as far as the garlic, perhaps they meant the 2 whole roasted and then burnt to a crisp cloves that polluted my pallet for the rest of the evening. roasted garlic is not difficult if that's what they were going for i make it in my house all the time. the garlic bread was mediocre. friend 1 ordered the perch which was supposed to be in a lemon caper sauce, she said she could barely taste lemon at all. and the veggies served on the side were cold. friend 2 ordered the crab legs, how can you really screw that up though, you cook em, your done. after our meal i waited for the waitress to come over, i wanted to take the majority of my pasta home and turn it into a real meal perhaps the next day. and then we waited some more.. and then we tried making eye contact with her, and waited some more, 30 minutes later after watching her visit other tables multiple times, she came over apologizing saying that it was understaffed and she was paying for our drinks. she said she would pay for our dessert but we passed. i am not a picky person, i have eaten in hole in the wall diners that had better service AND FOOD! my friends are not picky people, we were happy to have the time to spend together, but this is a restaurant i will never be back to. sadly my friend will not be having her reception here. and from the other wedding review, that's just one more reason. step it up mac and rays or lower your prices. i must also mention i always tip 20% (95% of the time) if the service is shitty 10-15% i was sad to say none of us could bring ourselves to leave a dime.

We were there for Thanksgiving buffet after the football game at 5 pm. Food was cold and I wanted prime rib. I got an end piece that was dry and had hoped to get more than one piece to eat as I do not care for Turkey. That prime rib was not worth $24.95 per person! We have heard that other people enjoyed their food, but I felt it left a lot to be desired.

Went for a wonderful Easter brunch. I didn't think I would enjoy it as i just had bariatric surgery and would be wasting my money but Mac and rays are bariatric friendly when you show your medical card. I only had to pay the child price. What a selection they had and it all looked good, and everyone else in our party went up a few times to get 2nds and 3rds. I tried a bit of carved prime rib and it was fork tender and perfectly cooked. I also had a bite of carved ham and it was delicious, kinda wish I could have had some of the other dishes but oh well i was full after 3 bites of each.

So, My mom had received a gift certificate good for two Sunday Brunches, good for $40. I said oh! I'm jealous! I want to go! That was a year ago, and finally the expiration date was approaching and she gave them to me. I had always had the impression this was a nice place to go. A fancy wedding venue, so I assumed the food would be good. I looked at yelp, and lowered my expectations. We decided to give it a shot anyway, we had 2 free brunches and not much to lose. My boyfriend, 5 year old and I walked in. "This place is so fancy" Says 5 year old. To us it looked like its heyday was maybe in 94...And they haven't changed a bit since then. We sit down, get the rundown of what was available and make our way to the buffet. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, eggs bennedict... Then came the lunch choices, chicken picatta with a thick, gloopy yellowy sauce, cheesy potatoes (the kind you find at a family reunion... except they were kraft cheese sauce orange..and cold) Mashed potatoes, some type of white fish, two types of pasta, a penne with alfredo sauce and a fettuccine noodle with a red sauce. At there end there was smoked salmon with some assorted toppings, store bought pound cake, some muffins and rolls. There was a bored teenager carving prime rib, and making omelettes to order as well. Next was the salad bar, pretty lackluster. Though, there were 4 types of lettuces that all looked fresh. Standard toppings, tomatoes, carrots, croutons, parmesan, feta cheese, cucumber and some strangely whitish candied walnuts. On the other side there was some cut up melon and pineapple, lavash bread and tabouleh. So after we grab our assortment, we have a seat and dig in. First was the piccata. I should have known by the look the sauce would be gross. The lemon sauce was very thick and artificial. Mashed potatoes were ok. I had a few bites from the prime rib, which had good flavor but I had a an end piece so it was a little tough and stringy. More like an overcooked pot roast that your mom would serve. Penne was very bland and the alfredo sauce was chunky and not very warm. Cheesy potatoes were also bland. Not a horrible flavor but the color was slightly off putting. My salad was good, It was a spring mix lettuce blend and the raspberry vinaigrette was tasty. My favorite thing was the tabouleh, which was fresh and full of flavor. Boyfriend had the smoked salmon, which he said was ok. There was a lemon dill sauce for it. He also tried to eat the eggs benedict... tried. There was no cutting into the bottom muffin. Hard as a rock. Also, there were some random black olives on top, for seemingly no reason. Daughter loved the sausage, eggs and waffles. At least one of us was satisfied. After we sat there for a while without our plates being cleared, we went for dessert. Decent selection. Cookies, a chocolate cake, chocolate mousse with some candy corn colored shavings on top (festive, right?) 3 types of cheesecake, and some mini cannolis. We got back to the table, had to push away our dirty plates, and dug in. Everything was alright, but nothing blew us away. We took a few bites of this and that and called it a day. Time for the check, I presented our gift certificate to the server. Good for 2 buffets, $40 value. She took that and came right back with the bill. I noticed that she had discounted one adult buffet, and the $12.95 for the childs. I guess I should have argued, but I said forget it, and just paid for one adult buffet, which is 19.95. After taxes it was closer to $23. I threw $31 in the book and we left, disappointed. I could have gotten the three of us a way better meal for $31. I'm just glad we didn't all have to pay full price. Needless to say we will not be returning... and If I'm ever invited to a wedding here, I will eat before I go, and I would advise you do the same.

I came here for a baby shower..um, let's just say, If I get pregnant, my shower won't be here. Besides the place being freezing, let's talk about the mimosa's...I'm not sure if they know you have to put champagne in there. It was basically all OJ. The salad, mixed greens, I was about half done and I turned to say something to my friend and the waitress snatched it out from under me..Hey! Not finished yet! The main course, white fish. I thought I was eating chicken. The texture was really weird and meaty. It also had this lemon sauce on it that was not so good. I think it came with some mixed vegetables or something. Warm rolls with butter, bonus. Dessert, I think the guest of honor had the cake made elsewhere, because the cassata cake was delicious. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for any of this.

This place is nice, I went here for a Wedding. I did a little dancing, at one point I even busted out a new move I have been working on called the Robot. The decor and staff are nice. The valet was nice. Everything was pretty nice however I think it needs a little updating and the food could use a little more care. I am not saying I could do a better job, it is a nice place for a large group, for a small one however the food could be slightly better.

I came here for a wedding and really enjoyed myself. They offered complimentary valet and had a beautiful waterfront view. The lighting and décor is nice. By the decor I can imagine there is probably a lot of history in the building, but everything has been kept very nice. The room set up was a little odd, the dance floor is in a corner and the room is shaped like an L which I am not fond of for a party. So while the bride and groom where doing all the activities like cutting the cake, being introduced, the first dance, and everything no one was able to comfortably see what was going on unless you where right up at the dance floor. The food was pretty good, although my mom ordered a gluten free meal and never even received it. Everyone around her at the table was halfway through their meal and she still hadn't been served. This was a bit upsetting, but they just seemed really slow with their service. My boyfriend also ordered steak sauce and didn't receive it until he had a couple bites left of his steak. I havn't been to any of the other places in this area so I do not have anything to compare it to. I enjoyed the MacRay Harbor aside from the slower service and inconvenient room setup.

My cousin had his wedding here this past weekend (8/28). The venue is gorgeous, overlooking the bay. The wait staff was cordial. The food was good (I had the salmon with rice). The only complaint that I had was that they only had 2 bartenders for an open bar of about 200+ people, so the wait was a little long at times - not good for a wedding. BUT, all in all it was a pleasant experience and you really can't beat the views.
